Know your sweat. Boost your performance.
Sweat volume and sodium concentration testing gives you personalized insight into how much fluid and sodium you lose during exercise, so you can build a hydration strategy based on your needs—not a generic formula.
This is especially valuable for athletes training or racing for longer durations, in the heat, or who notice signs of high sweat or sodium losses.
Not performing in the heat? It’s probably your hydration
Diarrhea during a race? It’s probably your hydration
Painful bloating during training? It’s probably your hydration

What you get:
- Sweat sodium concentration (how salty of a sweater you are) Na+ mg/L sweat*
- Sweat volume (how much you sweat) oz/hour or ml/hour*
- Detailed Report and Personalized Guidebook (recommendations) utilizing your sweat testing results, preferred sports nutrition products, sport(s), and other considerations
What’s required:
- The testing is in-person and starts from our Old Town Fort Collins, Colorado office (location provided after purchase) or at an offsite location for an additional fee.
- You will perform a 1-2 hour moderate-to-hard bike ride or run during the test. This is so we can gather sweat samples for the sweat sodium concentration and measure your sweat volume.
- The workout can be the first 1-2 hours of a longer workout with a 5 minute stop.
- Feedback Trainer and Kreitler Rollers are provided for indoor cycling workouts if desired.
How it works:
Once you purchase the Sweat Test you will get an email from us to schedule your in-person sweat test.
Our testing methods are based on best practices from the Gatorade Sports Science Institute using the LAQUAtwin sodium ion meter from Horiba to measure sodium concentration in the sweat and sweat volume.
We will apply patches (film dressing/sticker with medical gauze patches) to three areas of the body at the beginning of the workout and collect the sweat samples from the gauze patches at the end of the workout.
We also complete a sweat volume test by weighing your body weight and food/fluids consumed during the workout and use these values to calculate your sweat rate (how much you sweat per hour) during the test.
You will receive your results and personalized recommendations in email within 7 days of your testing. Results can be sent earlier for a fee.
With both of these tests (sodium concentration and volume) we will be able to gain valuable insight regarding your sweat rate and sodium concentration. At Kristen Arnold and Team we are consistently up to date on the latest research and practice in hydration sciences and recommendations.
FAQs:
I have specific sports nutrition products I like, can you give me advice using these?
Yes. The Guidebook is highly detailed and will consider the sports nutrition products you prefer and how we recommend you to use them. We may also recommend additional products if relevant.
If I get the sweat test done in the cooler temps of fall or winter, will it help me when I’m training and competing in the heat of summer?
Yes. One test is better than none, and the results we gather at this test can help inform a baseline for you to apply to other conditions/workouts/sports/etc. That being said, we do offer a discount for repeat tests and recommendations on when and how often to retest.
When do you offer sweat testing?
When we are in town! This is likely to be in the fall, winter, and early spring.
